Jay W. Merz - 1946-2011

Jay W. Merz, age 64, died peacefully at his home in Darien on October 18, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Jay grew up in Hinsdale and lived there most of his adult life. He was the fifth generation of his family to live in Hinsdale. Jay was a graduate of Hinsdale Township High School and the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He worked in the corporate insurance business. Jay was a scout leader and youth soccer coach for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Marilyn nee: Hanley, son Daniel (Ami) Merz, his daughter Meredith (Doyle) Devereux, and his grandsons, Andrew, William and Nathan Merz. Jay is also survived by his dear brother Jon (Corinne) Merz, and his aunts, Sylvia Dreusicke, and Lois Merz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Vivian Merz.

Funeral services, Saturday 9:15 a.m. at Adolf Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 7000 S. Madison St. Willowbrook, proceeding to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 8404 S. Cass Ave., Darien, for 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation on Friday October 21, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Interment, Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien.
